From Nursery to Bedroom - Modern Woodland Room Designs

Neutral nurseries can be designed with timeless colors and modern lines that can easily evolve as a child grows. I like to create a blank canvas with investment pieces by focusing on soft, neutral colors like beige, gray, and warm wood tones. These colors create a neutral base that can easily be updated as your child grows.

As your children’s interests develop, neutral foundations make it simple to refresh the room with new decor, bedding, or artwork without the need for a full re-design. This flexibility not only saves time and money but also ensures the room feels cohesive and stylish through every stage of childhood… and maybe even into teenage years (with fingers crossed).

Here are a few ideas that I think are important when designing a nursery for a growing little one:

  • Choose furniture that can grow with your child - Look for pieces like a changing table that also doubles as a dresser, or a crib that can turn into a toddler bed.

  • Focus on neutral colors that can easily be refreshed with new decor - use soft versatile base colors. You can always add personality through rugs, wall art, or shelf decor that can be changed when interests change.

  • Storage is a must. Add accessories like open shelving for storage bins that can accommodate diapers one day, and trucks another.

  • Let’s not overcrowd! One day your kiddo might want a desk or play area. It’s okay to leave space as your kid’s needs change.

  • Durable materials are smart. There are so many great options for washable rugs or wipeable surfaces. These will help the quality of the room stand the test of time.

A woodland nursery is fun because it brings the playfulness of the outdoors inside. You can fill a room with friendly forest animals, cozy textures, and nature inspired colors. It sparks a child’s imagination, turning their room into a little world of adventure.

I found this wallpaper that I fell in love with. Its whimsical, while adding a neutral base with a subtle pattern. I would pair this wallpaper with a black crib, and a Swiss cross rug like this one for a fun nursery design that can be transitioned into a child’s bedroom when the time comes.

A comfortable glider chair is a must for those middle of the night snuggles. Here are a few neutral gliders with modern lines that would fit perfectly into this space:

Ready to ditch the crib? Simply replace with a neutral upholstered bed frame and nightstands with clean lines. You can even keep the artwork and the rug the same as before. Wanting a change? This rug also works in this space under a bed or over an empty floor for some added texture and interest.
